Achuzat Sara Children's Home - Getting Kids to Smile!
Help Us to Implement out Vision
Getting kids to smile is the Main mission that we at Achuzat Sara have taken upon ourselves.
All babies learn how to laugh, However, tragic circumstances sometimes cause that
joy to fade. Our goal is to help 150 children, ranging in age from six to fourteen, learn
how to smile again.
The children of the Achuzat Sara Home have one thing in common. They were all
removed from their families. In some cases the Ministry of Welfare does this beacause their
parents found it difficult to raise and educate them. Other times it is done by the court, for
instance, if it is discovered that they have suffered some form of abuse and are not at risk.
We help the children at Achuzat Sara achieve a feeling of safety and comfort by providing
warmth, love and pleasant childhood. Our devoted and caring educational and therapeutic
staff labors tirelessly over the development of programs and activities that are appropriate for
them. Our goal is to help them grow, to progress, and to prepare for future lives of
independence and security.
Achuzat Sara is open throughout the year and children can stay here all the time if they so
desire. We believe that the more we provide them with a family atmosphere and emotional
support, the better they will be equipped to stand on their own later.
The children are divided into small educational groups of twelve children per group. Some of
the groups live in a small group home framework, in which a couple living with them helps to
simulate a family in a homelike atmosphere.
The children learn in schools within the larger community, each child according to his needs
and talents. In the children's residence, every child has his own individual therapy program,
adjusted according to his difficulties and his needs. The staff includes a social worker, a
psychologist, and various therapeutic frameworks. Our goal is to narrow the gaps in school
performance between them and their friends, to enable them to integrate successfully and
comfortably in the future as equals in Israeli Society. Our approach over the last fifty years
has proven itself. Among Achuzat Sara alumnae are physicians, attorneys, military
commanders, university professors, rabbanim - in short, individuals who have excelled in
every area of society.
At Achuzat Sara we educate the children in a dati-leumi (Religous National) framework and
we put the emphasis on morals and social values. We provide enrichment in a range of areas,
and a wide variety of cultural activities. All this with an eye to enabling the children to
achieve maturity and independence and, above all, to become the best people they can be.
